18″ x 18″ abstract painting on cradled wood panel

When I think of the color red, I think of the custom paint jobs on classic cars and hotrods from the 50s and 60s. This abstract painting was created using the candy apple red paint process. It has metallic base coat followed by many layers of translucent reds, golds and various colors. I added an element of pinstriping to the composition to further push the custom car look. It also has metal flake embedded below the multiple coats of glossy clear varnish. This piece was created with joint knives and non traditional tools and techniques.

This luminous abstract work is influenced by custom hotrods and classic cars of the 50s and 60s.
